Total population of the town is 11,805 (2017). Kőszeg attracts people also from other areas of the country; the town saw a migration gain of 424 between 2013 and 2017, which resulted in a slight growth in the number of residents. 150,000 residents live and work in the area including the Szombathely agglomeration as well. Due to the vicinity of the border and the presence of international companies, working culture of local residents is more developed compared to that of people living in other regions of the country.

The Employment Pact of Northern County Vas, governed by the Municipality of Kőszeg, aims at supporting (re)integration of the strata being excluded from the labour market, foster cooperation between employment stakeholders and encourage labour market and employment related innovation.
